My Reflections of Gail

As my thoughts and memories move through time, they take me back to my high school days. One of my great crushes was a dark-haired beauty named Gail Solomon. I tried to woo her and get her attention any way I could, but I was pretty inept. I drew her portrait from memory many times and sent little notes and cartoons to her. We went to see Elton John together, I think, in 1972. It was a boyhood crush that was unrequited, but I will always have the beautiful memory of her.

Many years after, when we were both married and with families of our own, we got to meet again in Tulsa when we both happened to be there at the same time. We were able to talk and catch up. We also communicated a bit through social media.

I found out about her death just today. I constantly miss important mail and texts. I was shaken out of my own petty reality today by this terrible news. My heart goes out to her husband and family. May her memory be eternal; she was a wonderful, giving, and beautiful soul.
