A memory by

Tody Warshavsky

Gail and Linda had been close friends for many years, and we often found ourselves invited to Gail and Avi’s home for Friday-night dinner.
Gail knew how much I loved seafood, which we did not bring into our own home for reasons of kashrut. Therefore, whenever she invited us for Shabbat dinner, she would make sure to include my favorite shrimp dish on the menu.
As was my custom every Friday evening, I would recite the Kiddush properly before the meal, and only afterward we would all sit down and enjoy dinner – including the shrimp.
